Hiking the iconic Swartberg Mountain near Oudtshoorn
If you’re looking for an activity that truly gets your blood flowing, both physically and mentally, consider exploring the Swartberg Mountains. Since 2004, this incredible area has been a UNESCO World Heritage site, recognized for its commitment to preserving a rich tapestry of history, culture, and the unique plant and animal life it holds.
The Swartberg isn’t just any mountain range; it’s a living museum. Beyond its stunning vistas, it’s home to the endemic Fynbos vegetation, a diverse and captivating floral kingdom found nowhere else on Earth. The very geology of the mountains is also quite remarkable, showcasing a fascinating formation that tells a story millions of years in the making.
Imagine stepping back in time. A guided hike through these mountains offers a truly unique perspective on what life was like for those who built, lived, and traversed this majestic landscape way back in the late 1800s. Being on foot allows for a much closer look at the intricate details of the Fynbos plants. You might discover which plants the original inhabitants used to ward off evil spirits, which were vital for treating ailments, and perhaps even some you’d be wise to avoid!
For those eager to experience this, you have options. You can challenge yourself with a 500-meter ascent to take in breathtaking panoramic views from above. If a more relaxed pace suits you better, we can embark on a leisurely, scenic walk that still leads to incredible views of the sandstone gorge and its impressive folded rock formations.
As you explore, you’ll also get to enjoy a locally produced snack pack, adding a touch of local flavour to your adventure.

Night Time Nature Walk
Sometimes, getting the blood flowing doesn’t mean a strenuous hike or a daring abseil. Sometimes, it means a thrilling walk under the night sky, uncovering hidden wonders. And that’s exactly what you’ll find on our unique night-time veld walk in the beautiful Klein Karoo near Oudtshoorn!
Ever wondered what surprises the desert holds after dark? Here’s a cool fact: scorpions glow in the dark! It’s not magic, but a fascinating trick of nature. Their hard exoskeletons contain a special chemical that reacts to UV light, making them fluoresce with an eerie, beautiful glow.
This is truly an activity the whole family will love. Scorpions are naturally shy creatures and prefer to explore under the cover of darkness. Luckily for us, this makes them easier to spot with our special torches!
