Birding

Klein Karoo Birding

Despite the Klein Karoo not being known for it’s birding, Oudtshoorn and surrounding areas offer a great birding experience.  From rivers, farmlands, dams and mountain terrain you are sure to find some truly special species to add to your lifelist.
Our experience starts with a leisurely walk around the farm to some of the birding hotspots with a guide that will help you with identification, behaviour and some photography opportunities.
Depending on the your needs we will arrange for either a breakfast picnic at one of the hotspots on the farm or a buffet breakfast back at the De Zeekoe Guest Farm.
Should you wish to book accommodation at De Zeekoe Guest Farm, please contact them directly
If you are looking to check off some endemic species from your list, check out our Swartberg Birding Experience

A Sunday of Sunbirds – Roadside Birding in the Klein Karoo

A couple of weeks ago I was chatting to some birding friends of mine…. I call them My Bird Nerds. These are the guys I turn to when I need help identifying a bird. What’s great about them is that they have their own network of Bird Nerds so if I stump them, they send it on and eventually we get an answer.
Anyway while chatting to them the discussion around larks came up and how I was still battling to identify them. Gareth, my bird nerd friend says to me, “You’re in the best place for “larking”.” And he was totally right so I decided to go birding the following day along one of the many dirt roads in the area here in Oudtshoorn.
